Who is eligible to take this 90-minute parent/teen course online?

The Code of Virginia (§ 22.1-205) requires students and their parents living in Planning District 8 which includes the counties of Arlington, Fairfax, Loudoun and Prince William, and the cities of Alexandria, Fairfax, Falls Church, Manassas and Manassas Park, to participate in a 90-minute parent/teen presentation.  This presentation has been added to District 8 classroom driver education courses.

If the student completes an approved classroom driver education course online, this student is eligible to complete the additional 90-minute driver education parent/teen component online using this course.  Online students may also complete this requirement at a commercial driver training school, a public school, or a private school.

At the completion of this online course, the parent/guardian and the student will be required to sign an affirmation of attendance to acknowledge completion of the required 90-minute component. The certificate for affirmation of attendance must be submitted along with the proof of classroom completion in order for the student to be eligible to begin the in-vehicle portion of the driver education program.

If I successfully complete public school or private school classroom driver education course can I take this 90-minute course online?

As the 90-minute parent/teen component has been added to the classroom driver education course, the accountability for the implementation, delivery, and documentation of successful completion of this legislative requirement rests with your classroom driver education teacher.  Consequently, it is the responsibility of the classroom teacher to hold at least two high-quality, meaningful parent/teen presentations at a time convenient for parents. Teachers are also encouraged to make provisions for additional sessions when warranted.

We do, however, acknowledge that no schedule will be convenient for all parents and their teens. The school division driver education supervisor may contact us in writing to request special permission for a public or private school student to enroll in this program. This request must be received prior to student registration. No refund will be issued to any student who enrolls in th eprogram and is not eligible to complete it.
